Jobs that just aren't Agile

07 Apr 2016

On LinkedIn recently, I noticed that an ex-colleague now has the title of "Defect Manager" at a testing company. What, I wondered, does a Defect Manager do? Well, manage defects of course.

Okay,  but why give someone a job that describes something you should not be doing at all? A defect manager has no incentive whatsoever to eliminate defects altogether because then she would be out of a job.

The job of a tester is to ensure that solutions meet the business need as quickly as possible. It is not the job of a tester to find defects.
